Winter Solstice
Each December, Rathnelly residents light up the night in our neighbourhood with our annual Winter Solstice celebration. This Rathnelly holiday tradition is great fun for neighbours of all ages. We meet at Hardy’s Corner at 6:00 p.m, then parade through the laneways with lanterns, bells, and drums, stopping in at our neighbours sparkling decked out garages on Rebellion Lane for goodies.
Special thanks to our WSP coordinator extraordinaire, Nichole Anderson-Bergeron and her small but mighty team of volunteers who make this event such a special evening. Thanks also to those residents on Rebellion Lane who open their garages and offered up hot drinks and sweet & savory treats for the enjoyment of revelers.
You can check out photos from the most recent Winter Solstice party below. Have some good photos from past Winter Solstice celebration you’d like to share? Get in touch with us, and we can add them to the site.

Need some ideas for how to make your own lantern for the next Rathnelly Winter Solstice parade? Our neighbour Nichole has you covered! She says: “One of the easiest ways is to take a 2L milk or juice carton and cut four windows in it, string some tissue paper around it, add an LED candle, use pipe cleaners for a handle, and you're all set!”
